SNOW HITS NEW ZEALAND

May 17th 2010 12:09
Last night, 10 cm of snow fell on New Zealand's Mt. Hutt.
Perhaps a harbinger of a glorious ski season?

On Saturday, Mt. Hutt plans to fire-up the snowmaking
system with a June 12 opening day planned.

A new revolutionary electronic lift ticketing system will
be launched this season. Dubbed the " my pass," it's
a credit card sized radio frequency read ID card which
remains inside your pocket.

Whenever a card holder passes through a ski lift
checkpoint, the card is automatically read by an RF
reader. The lift attendant can instantly tell if the picture

pass is valid.

Customers load the card with products and services
they wish to access during the season and can download
tracking information about their ski day: Number of runs and
vertical meters skied among other things.

In theory, the card sounds like a great convenience,
but if it is lost it could be a major headache for the cardholder.
