SKI RESORTS RALLY FOR HAITIANS
January 24th 2010 12:47
Over the busy Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday weekend,
ski resorts across the United States rallied to raise funds
to help the Haitian relief effort. Ski areas are in a unique
position to help various fundraising efforts for charitable
causes because their guests usually are in good mood
during their ski day and have extra bucks in their pockets
to spend on food and drink.
The Boyne Resorts ski area chain, consisting of nine resorts
across the United States, contributed one dollar for ever
lift ticket sold on January 16. Their efforts totaled over
US$30,000 donated to the Red Cross.
Hunter Mountain, the powerhouse ski area of New York's
Catskill Mountains, partnered with OvRide, a New Jersey
bus tour operator, to donate ten dollars for every passenger
taking the bus to Hunter over the MLK weekend.
In New Hampshire, Gunstock, King Pine and Pat's Peak
raised over US$5000 to contribute to the Haitian relief
effort.
Wachuset Mountain, a short drive from Boston, also
raised more than US$5,000 to help in Haiti.
Major food companies which have been very generous to
the Haitian relief effort include Goya Foods and Kellogg's.
It's been reported that Kellogg's Poptarts are very popular
with hungry Haitians.
