SKI JUMPING IN SEPTEMBER
For those of us in North America who can't wait until November
to slide downhill on our skis and snowboards, the Professional Ski
Instructors of America offers us a venue: Ski Jumping in September.
In Lake Placid on September 14 and 15th, the PSIA
(the organization that certifies ski instructors) will be running an
educational ski jumping clinic at the Olympic Sports Complex.
The two day clinic is open to anyone with advanced skiing or
snowboarding skills and includes two action-packed days of training,
instruction by PSIA and Olympic Regional Development Authority
coaches and educational handout material.
Coaching will begin with trampoline warm-ups and then proceed
to the three ski jumps. Landings, actually splashdowns will occur in the
pool. Needless to say, it helps to know how to swim as well as ski and ride.
The cost for this exciting two day educational clinic is only $235.
Participants must provide their own ski or snowboard equipment,
helmet, mouthguard and personal flotation device (life preserver).
A myriad of lodging and dining options are available in the
Lake Placid area.
For further information or to register, visit: www.psia-e.org.
If you'd prefer to watch ski jumping in September, rather than fly through
the air yourself, the United States Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in
Ishpeming, Michigan will be holding ski jumping demos and a junior
tournament on Saturday September 12 and Sunday September 13 in
their Suicide Bowl jumping arena.
