The torrential nor'easter storm that hit Vermont last weekend brought
record-breaking early season snowfalls to the state's high peaks.
Killington was blasted with heavy snow while the lower elevations
experienced flood like conditions.
The National Weather Service reported that Mount Mansfield received
18 inches of snow, a new record for mid-October.
Ski areas at the higher elevations are testing their snowmaking
systems, putting equipment in place and are poised to fire up the
air compressors and water pumps with an eye towards early November
opening dates.
If temperatures remain below freezing after sunset in the days ahead,
Killington may be able to offer pre-Halloween skiing and riding.
