NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY SEASON PASSES
Yes it's August and buying ski lift tickets is not on the high priority list, but if you want the best
deals this coming season, now is indeed the time to buy.
Right now, ski areas across North America are offering the lowest prices possible on 2009-10
season passes. Why? Well, ski areas have little cash flow right now and they would
like to pump up their checking accounts to pay all those mounting bills.
In return for parting with the bucks for a season pass before September 1, or in some
cases September 31, you're likely to save hundreds of dollars compared to what you
pay in November or gulp, December.
The best thing is to check out the websites of the ski area you are considering buying
a season pass from for the coming season. Many of the areas have their prices posted
and you can buy online or over the phone. It's also a good idea to call the ski area
to confirm price or even chat-up the general manager to see if you can score an
even better deal.
Say you have a group of five friends or more who are seriously interested in purchasing
season passes for a particular mountain. It doesn't hurt to get the general manager or
at the larger resorts, the person who has anointed himself "president," on the phone and get him drooling over the prospect of getting five or more people to drop by his office with cash
in hand to buy season passes within a few days time.
"What can you do for us buddy? We like your mountain and we want to part with our
cash this week. How 'bout a discount? Huh, huh? "
Here's an excellent deal in New Hampshire's White Mountains available right now.
A midweek combo season pass, dubbed the "Bold and Beautiful Pass," valid at both mighty Cannon Mountain and super-groomed Bretton Woods can be had for only $319. And New Hampshire won't hit you up for sales tax on top of that low price.
Damn good deal, even if you only use it for five days of skiing and riding. After five
days of use you pass the break-even point compared to buying individual day lift tickets.
Yeah, it's blacked out during holiday weeks. But who wants to ski and ride when the
slopes are jammed anyway? And, if you don't get enough runs in during the day, the "Bold and Beautiful" combo pass can be used to ski after dark under the lights at Bretton Woods.
So, if you're interested in saving bucks on your uphill rides this coming season, now is the time to shop around.
