NEW LIFTS FOR WESTERN CANADA
September 28th 2009 17:20
Three new lifts are being installed in the Canadian Rockies this fall.
As you might expect, Whistler Mountain will have one and so will
Marmot Basin and Nakiska.
Mamot Basin's new C$8 million high speed quad chairlift is anxiously
awaited by skiers and riders this winter. It replaces both the
Tranquilizer Chair and Kiefer T-bar. Rising 596 vertical meters,
the lift dubbed "The Canadian Rockies Express" will transport
skiers and riders from the base of the lower mountain to near the
top of the Paradise Chair, all in a mere 7.5 minutes time.
Nakiska's new "Gold Chair Express" lift is a high-speed quad chairlift
running skiers and riders up to the summit in less than five minutes.
Rising 468.38 vertical meters, the new chair has a maximum capacity of
transporting 1910 passengers uphill per hour. Bye, bye, lift lines.
Whistler's Creekside Timing Flats Express detachable quad chair
is not very exciting but a necessary addition installed for the rapidly
approaching Winter Olympics. It's purpose is to whisk spectators,
media and personnel back and forth between the Creekside Village
to the Timing Flats, where the alpine events finish line and grandstand
will be located.
Many grateful spectators will appreciate the uphill ride rather than
hoofing it up hill during the Games.
