MOUNT SNOW FEEDS HUNGRY ON OPENING DAY
October 21st 2009 19:01
On the mountain's opening day last week, Mount Snow's eager skiers
and riders donated more than US$5000 and 1,500 food items to
a local food bank. More than 800 people showed up to celebrate
opening day--the earliest lift-served opening day in the mountain's
history.
With the recent change in ownership a few years ago, management
added a plethora of fan snowguns which are able to make snow
in warmer temperatures than traditional tower guns. Management
also seems currently committed to starting the season as early
as possible.
It should be noted that way back when in 1958, Mount Snow's
legendary founder, Walter Schoenknecht saw the hand writing
on the eastern weather wall and began experimenting with
primitive snowmaking systems.
Today, skiers and riders can rest assured there will be skiable
trails open on the mountain from November through April.
