MITTERSILL CHAIRLIFT PROJECT UNDERWAY

August 23rd 2010 13:50
After a 26 year hiatus, a chairlift will once again spin this
season at the legendary Mittersill ski area tucked away in
the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Last Friday,
NH Governor John Lynch attended an official groundbreaking
event for the new CTEC double chairlift. He was presented
with the flag of Mittersill, Austria sent overseas by the mayor.

The new lift will offer skiers and riders over 1000 vertical
feet of action on the old, narrow winding Mittersill trails this
season. No snowmaking yet though, so the snowpack has to
be hefty enough to spin the new chair.

Mittersill is skiable from the Cannon Mountain trail system.
This year skiers and riders can enjoy the Mittersill trails
without hoofing it back to the Cannon lift system.

Earlier this month, the top terminal of the ancient Hall
double chairlift was torn down. (A video clip of this
can be seen on Youtube.com) Over the years, the old
lift shacks were vandalized beyond feasible repair.

It's nice to see that the State of New Hampshire--the owners
of Cannon and Mittersill are investing in what skiers and riders
want: adventure skiing and riding.
