MAGIC MT STILL HANGING
September 3rd 2010 19:18
Southern Vermont's Magic Mountain is still hanging in
there despite the odds of success. The new co-op
owner scheme---ala Mad River Glen--is still in need of
110 more investors to buy in.
Meanwhile, basic maintenance work goes on this summer
and fall season---a good thing. Means they haven't kicked
the old ski boot into the banker's bucket and run for the hills
just yet.
Hard working volunteers and staffers have been busy shoring up the
leaky snowmaking pipelines and hydrants during the heat of summer,
and figuring out some way to pay for much needed repairs on
the Black Chairlift.
The main lift, the Red Chair is ready to spin once skiable
base depths return.
So anyway, if 2010-11 is a fairly good snow year, Magic Mountain
will survive. If not, well stay tuned.
But you know, even when these mid-sized under capitalized ski
areas fail, some chump with deep pockets and stars in his eyes
usually comes along and buys the place. As has happened
in the past with Magic.
