KILLINGTON WINS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD
May 10th 2010 12:38
Killington ski resort was recently awarded the prestigious
Vermont Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence
on the basis of two completed projects.
The resort retrofitted nine walk-in refrigerator and freezers
with Free Aire Economizer Systems which allow cold winter
outside air to cool the interior refrigeration units. The walk-ins
also had new low-energy evaporator motors installed.
On the snowmaking operations side, new heat exchangers
were installed which recycle the heat generated by the
massive snowmaking compressors. The captured heat is
then used to heat buildings and water.
The combination of these two projects save more than an
estimated 1,400 gallons of fuel oil and thousands of kilowatt
hours of electricity on a seasonal basis.
