November 1st 2011 17:28
In the Believe It or Not category of skiing news, we bring you
this one: The new owner of southern Vermont's mothballed
Haystack Mountain ski area, Jim Barnes, claims he will
spin the chairlifts this season for skiers and riders.
Barnes has deep pockets and also owns the adjacent Hermitage
Inn which he plans to make the base area for Haystack ski
and ride operations.
According to published reports, Barnes has purchased 25 fan
snowmaking guns and is presently cutting an access trail
from Haystack Mountain to his inn, The Hermitage.
He also claims he will be installing a gondola lift. A gondola
lift for Haystack? Come on man, what you been smokin' in
your pipe lately?
As the old Warren Miller adage goes, "if you want to make
a fortune in the ski business, start with a large one."
