HAYSTACK MT SOLD AGAIN

October 13th 2011 15:27
The shuttered Haystack Mountain ski area in the shadow
of Mount Snow in southern Vermont has been sold again.
The sale is still pending but it looks like the remaining lands
of the defunct Haystack Club have been sold to the Hermitage
Inn Real Estate Holding Company, LLC.

Over the last few decades this former vibrant, family-oriented
ski area has been plagued by inept managers and owners. From
the bankrupt American Skiing Company to the Haystack Club's
grandiose plans for an exclusive private club, lack of serious capital,
poor weather years and over-regulation drove this place into the

ground.

What the new owners---the Hartford, Conn., based operators of the
nearby Hermitage Inn who also dabble in luxury yacht leasing--
will do with the 86-acre parcel is anyone's guess.

Odds are that this place will never be an operating ski area again.
It's entirely possible that expensive home building lots will continue
to sold in the near future.

The Mount Snow area is a popular four-season recreational area
with golfing, alpine and XC skiing, hiking, biking, fishing and of
course--shopping.
