FRANCE'S NEW MAGNETIC CHAIRLIFT
November 13th 2009 20:20
Like something out of a science fiction movie, one where
prisoners wear electromagnetic boots and are sucked down
to a metal floor, France's, Courchevel resort has not just one,
but six chairlifts using this principle.
Here's the deal: a French company called Magnestick came up with a
novel why to keep overly active children from falling out of chairlifts.
Special chairlifts around the resort are set up with electro magnetics
on the seat backs.
Children meanwhile can wear special light weight jackets with metal
inside the lining. When a child boards a Magnestick charlift, the magnet
is activated which sucks the child's back to the seat back. At the top,
the magnetic current is switched off so the child can simply ski away.
Courchevel has had this rather unique safety system in place since
2007. This year, their new six-pack high-speed chairlift will be equipped
with the Magnestick system.
