FORMER SKI MOGUL MAINE GOVERNOR?
December 10th 2009 19:20
Although it's hard for ski industry pundits to fathom,
Les Otten, the former American Skiing Company
founder and CEO is vying to be governor of Maine.
Presently campaigning for the Republican Party
nomination, Otten believes he actually has a
chance at victory.
Back in the late 1990s, Les Otten and friends were
busy acquiring ski areas from coast to coast under
the corporate, once publicly traded, American Skiing
Company moniker.
Thanks to professional spin doctors, investors eagerly
bought stock in this go-go growth oriented skiing enterprise,
only to be soundly beaten to a financial pulp by 2006.
Too much borrowing, too little income brought this
shell of a corporation to its grave. Some former investors
still refer to Les Otten as "Les Rotten."
Well anyway, now Les, whatever you prefer to call him,
wants to be the next governor of Maine. Definitely
good ski theatre in the making here.
