FOR SALE: TENNEY MOUNTAIN
November 19th 2010 17:10
For as little as US$100,000, you could be the new owner of
New Hampshire's Tenney Mountain. The ski area goes
on the real estate auction block December 15 at 11 a.m.
EST.
The ski area parcel comes with 445 acres, two chairlifts, a base
lodge and assorted maintenance and administration buildings.
There's also two other abutting parcels going on the block
as well.
A savvy buyer could pick the place up at bargain-basement
prices but, then there's the little matter of US$170,000 in back
real estate taxes due the Town of Plymouth, N.H.
The auctioneer, Joseph Finn Company, Inc, is requiring
a hundred grand deposit from all potential bidders. Unsuccessful
bidders will receive all of their deposit back.
Tenney's had a succession of owners-- some with grandiose
unrealistic business plans like trying to make snow in August--
over the past two decades. All have failed because the competition
is too good and too close.
One former owner even tried a private club scheme that failed
miserably.
For this place to make it would require a massive investment
in high-speed lifts, snowmaking and of course, savvy marketing.
