Last week, former U.S. Ski Team member Ani Haas
got in to an unexpected boxing match with an angry
female black bear and won the bout!
Seems Haas was out running on mountainous
terrain in Missoula, Montana when she came across
two bear cubs who scrambled up a nearby tree fearing
for their lives.
Well, Momma Bear didn't like that so she challenged
Ms. Haas to a potentially deadly duel. Momma Bear
stood up on her hind feet and starting swinging, yet so
did Ani.
After a well-placed punch to the face, Momma Bear reeled
backwards yet regrouped for another round of fist to cuffs.
Fearing for her life Ms. Haas grabbed a nearby large rock,
raising it over her head to threaten Momma Bear.
Of course, Momma didn't like that either but she had some
common sense. After snarling and circling Haas for a bit,
Momma let her off with a stern warning, "don't mess with my
cubs again," and retreated down the trail.
Haas was treated for scratches on her body at the local
emergency room and released.
