ELECTRONIC TICKETS FOR ASPEN
September 23rd 2009 13:41
It wasn't all that long ago that ski area lift tickets were
hand-stamped with a date code and attached to ski
jackets with pipe cleaners. Then computer generated
lift tickets came along and in recent years the traditional
wire wicket has been replaced by plastic locking ties
which must be cut off to be removed.
This season at Aspen, skiers and riders will be
handed a plastic card encoded with a computer
chip at the ticket window. The card is then placed
in one's pocket.
As the card holder passes through the lift line,
electronic scanners will read the card to see if it is valid.
Sounds good in theory but........a good number of
skiers and riders are bound to lose the card when they
open their pockets to pull out tissues, money, lip balm
and other essentials during their ski day.
