CANYONS SPENDING SPREE
August 22nd 2010 15:19
Fresh from the dying last grasp of former owner, The American
Skiing Company, The Canyons Resort of Utah is forging
ahead with a plethora of exciting new projects.
First and foremost is the opening of ten new trails on the
southern most section of the resort, know as Iron Mountain.
The new trails will be serviced by a new quad chairlift.
And in a blast from the past, the resort is installing of all
things, a quad bubble chairlift with HEATED seats to keep
all the pansy skiers warm and toasty on the ride from the
Grand Summit Hotel to mid-mountain. The reason bubble
chairs--a chairlift with a pull down plexiglass cover--fell out
of favor with ski areas is a simple: they are a maintenance
nightmare. People vandalize them and weather beats them
up.
The gondola lift will have a new entry portal in the center of the
base village which will enable passengers to travel up to
Red Pine Lodge.
Last, put perhaps most important in the long run, The Canyons
is bringing a new 20 million gallon snowmaking reservoir on line
to insure there will be plenty of water to pump to all those thirsty
snowguns.
interestingly, The Canyons Resort is now owned by Canadians--
the Talisker Corporation of Toronto through its Talisker Mountain
Inc., subsidiary.
