CANADIAN SKI MUSEUM LOCKING ITS DOORS
May 20th 2011 14:48
The end is near for the Canadian Ski Museum in Ottawa. Due
to anemic levels of donations and funding, this bastion of Canada's
ski history will be packing up the exhibits and locking the doors
of the museum on June 30th.
Will the last one out, please turn out the lights? Electricity, as
well as rent and staff salaries has been too much for this non-
profit organization to pay in recent months.
All the artifacts of the museum's collection will be going into
deep storage until a new home and adequate funding can be secured.
Would it not make sense for one of Canada's major ski resorts to
offer complimentary space for the museum? The museum is a
year-round draw for tourists.
A ski resort with a viable base village would make sense for both
museum visitors and ski resort coffers, considering this one-of-a-
kind, valuable tourist draw.
