ASCUTNEY MOUNTAIN, A SLOW DEATH

May 22nd 2011 22:34
OVer the past half century and change, it seems that one
person or corporate entity, can not make Vermont's Ascutney
Mountain ski area, a viable, profitable enterprise.

Why? The mountain has great, challenging terrain, six lifts,
snowmaking systems, two base lodges and an operating
HOLIDAY INN hotel at its base.

Mismanagement, lack-of-infrastructure investment over the past
17 years perhaps?

Meanwhile, unless some entity with a few dollars behind them,
steps up to the plate soon.......this historic ski area will be liquidated.

Lifts will be removed and sold at bargain-basement prices to bottom

dweller ski areas. A shame really.

The property has great potential as a year-round resort. However,
it will take someone with vision, backing and the drive to make
it happen.

Otherwise, it's bye-bye Ascutney Mountain ski area.
