AMERICANS PUMP UP RUSSIA'S OLYMPIC SNOWMAKING
May 19th 2011 13:31
Russians excel at making nuke weapons and tanks, but when it
comes to pumping up the 2014 Winter Olympics' snowmaking
system, who do they call? An American firm in Indiana, of course.
Torrent Engineering and Equipment of Milford, Indiana is quite busy
putting the finishing touches on their 10,500 HP water pumping
system on the Rosa Khutor Olympic venue snowmaking system
in Sochi, Russia.
Torrent's impressive system has the capability of pumping
12,040 gallons-of-water-per minute up a 1000 meter vertical
incline via a primary and booster pumping station.
The made-in-America 21 pump system components were transported
to Montreal, Canada, shipped via freighters to Germany, then
transported by land-based carriers to Sochi.
