Skiing Reviews - December 2011

PEAK RESORTS BUY BIG BOULDER

December 29th 2011 11:59
Just before the end of the year, Peak Resorts--the operator
of 12 ski areas in the United States--has purchased Big
Boulder and Jack Frost ski areas.

Peak Resort has leased both eastern Pennsylvania "breeder"
ski areas since 2005. Both areas do a large volume of
learn-to-ski and learn-to-snowboard business, hence the
term: "breeder."

Due to their proximity to NYC and suburban markets, they
enjoy a substantial night skiing and riding trade. Snowtubing
is also a very popular activity with their customers.

MAGIC OPENING DECEMBER 26

December 23rd 2011 20:41
Battling the unseasonably mild weather, Vermont's Magic
Mountain is placing all its tricks up its proverbial sleeve,
in a gallant attempt to open for limited skiing and riding
on Monday, December 26,

Snowmaking efforts have been underway, during weather
windows of opportunity, on Trick to Wand to the Showoff
trail.

Holiday Week ticket rates have been reduced to US$36, if
one pre-purchases them on line. Southern Vermont received
a few inches of slushy snow this morning, December 23.

Have no fear, if the weather can't pull a magical trick for the

better to help Magic Mountain out for opening day, the
Blackline Brew Pub will be serving brew and cocktails
commencing at 11 a.m. EST.

In order to become a long-term viable ski area operation,
Magic Mountain requires a hefty transfusion of cash to
juice up its snowmaking water supply and system.
Relying on natural snowfall and a marginal snowmaking
system is a fast-food recipe for bankruptcy. While
McDonald's McNuggets may be tasty, they sure aren't
healthy for you in the long run.
