HUNTER PRIMED TO OPEN

October 31st 2011 14:14
After the recent surprise early season snowfalls combined
with ongoing snowmaking operations, New York's Hunter
Mountain is primed to open on November 19.

If you'd like to save on Hunter lift tickets this year without
springing for a season pass, consider buying one of their
Big Lift Cards.

For US$49, the Hunter Big Lift Card enables the holder
to buy day tickets for 25 percent off weekends and holidays
and 50 percent off midweek. The card also includes one
free lift ticket. Not a a bad deal.

An even better run for your money is their Big Lift Plus

Card for US$89. Same benefits as the lower priced card
plus another free lift ticket, a free lesson, additional
discounted ticket offers and bring-a-friend deals.

More deals are currently being formulated by the marketing
gurus at Hunter for the Big Lift Plus Card.

If you're interested in these cards, buy online before the
cutoff date of mid-November 2011.

KILLINGTON TO OPEN OCT 29

October 28th 2011 18:13
After nine inches of natural snowfall dropped atop a hefty,
early season snowmaking base, Vermont's Killington
is primed to open for skiing and riding on Saturday
October 29.

The K-1 gondola and the North Ridge Triple chair will spin.
Access to the white goods will be via the wooden walkway
from the summit to the top of the Rime trail.

Food and drinks will be available at the base of the
North Ridge Triple. Ticket price will be US$39.

Depending upon the weather, the lifts may or may
not be open on Sunday the 30th. It's a good idea to
check the website:www.killington.com before you

drive up.

Meanwhile wax your boards man.

NO POWDER FOR POWDER RIDGE

October 27th 2011 16:16
Powder Ridge, a small closed ski area in extreme southern
Connecticut USA used to be quite successful. Not only did
it attract day trippers from the immediate area but also
ferry riders traversing Long Island Sound from New York.

They had night skiing and riding, snowmaking, three double
chairlifts and a quad chair. Yeah, their vertical was a paltry
500 feet but it was nearby skiing and riding man!

It worked for the suburbanites who needed a hill to practice,
learn the fine arts of sliding and of course, to have a good time
in the process.

Well, recently an outfit calling itself Alpine Ridge LLC made
an offer to the Town of Middlefield, Conn., to buy the foreclosed
operation for US$1mill. They spent the summer kicking the
tires and whatnot, kinda wrapped the Town Fathers around their
middle finger and then withdrew their offer this month.

Snowmaking water is a problem and requires all kinds of
complicated permits and let's face it, operating a ski area
in the somewhat tropical climes of southern Connecticut is
a risky venture to say the least.

This place could work if it was developed as a year-round
attraction with an indoor refrigerated ice rink and perhaps
what the Brits call "a dry slope" in the off season.

Of course, all of this takes investment dollars, commitment
and astute management. Not this season folks, stay tuned
to this ORBLE channel.
