Skiing Reviews - June 2010

ZIP LINES FOR SUNDAY RIVER

June 30th 2010 14:30
As ski areas add to their summer attractions mix, Sunday
River in Maine is not to be left behind. This summer, in
addition to mountain biking, hiking and scenic chondola
(part chairlift, part gondola) rides, the ski area is offering
Geocaching.

Geocaching involves taking an adventure hike in search of
11 hidden GPS coordinates scattered throughout the mountain
peaks.

Come August, five zip lines, ranging from 100-ft to 300-ft will
be in operation if all goes according to plan. The lines, strung
near the South Ridge Base, will cross ravines and other

obstacles for the added thrill factor.

NORTH AMERICAN GLACIER SKIING

June 28th 2010 15:06
The summer glacier skiing and riding season is underway
on Blackcomb's Horstman Glacier in British Columbia. A
summer mini-pipe is currently under construction along with
terrain park hits.

Two T-bars serve the glacier, the Horstman and the Showcase
Ts. The ski and ride day runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. daily,
weather and conditions permitting.

It's not inexpensive though. The lift tariff is a heft C$55 per day
but the price per day drops with the purchase of a five-day pass
for C$228.

In addition to the skiing and riding, there's lift-served mountain biking,

hiking and just plain old relaxing sightseeing lift rides throughout the
summer at Blackcomb.

SNOW DUMPS ON MT. HUTT

June 25th 2010 15:07
The New Zealand ski season is off to an impressive
start. More than 58 centimeters of snow has dumped
upon Mt. Hutt over the past few days with more
white gold on the way.

Presently there is a hefty 1.25 meter base depth at the
summit of Mt. Hutt and 1.05 meters at the bottom. The
mountain plans to open the Triple Chair as soon as
possible.

For 10-19 year-olds looking for affordable ski and ride
coaching this season, Mt. Hutt is offering a "Cheapskates
Academy" every Sunday. For NZ$545 participants receive
five hours of coaching each Sunday from June 27 till September
12.
