Skiing Reviews - May 2010

NEW JERSEY SKI AREA FLIPPED

May 28th 2010 12:16
After 12 years of ownership, the financially beleaguered Intrawest
Corporation has flipped their Mountain Creek Resort property
in northern New Jersey.

Once two separate ski areas, Mountain Creek was formerly known
as Vernon Valley and Great Gorge before Intrawest bought the
combined operation, and of course renamed it "Mountain Creek
Resort."

What does "creek" have anything to do with a ski area? Mountain,
yes, but "creek." Perhaps it's time for a new name for this fairly
decent ski area as well as new owners.

The new owners are known as Crystal Springs Resort, operators

of waterparks, spas, golf courses, hotels and other tourist oriented
draws.

CHINA PEAK IN CALIFORNIA?

May 25th 2010 14:26
What's with the name changing of ski areas when new
owners come in? That latest name change game
happened last week when Tim Cohee closed on buying
California's Sierra Summit Mountain Resort.

First order of business? Why changing the name to China
Peak, of course. So no more Sierra Summit Mountain Resort.
China Peak is actually the former name of the ski area.
Whatever goes around, sometimes comes back around.

China Peak it is for the foreseeable future, with of course
an expensive Peak Club to join for those so inclined.

TREBLE CONE FREEZES PRICES

May 24th 2010 14:45
Well, with the cool, frigid New Zealand winter coming in,
it seems fitting that Treble Cone ski area has frozen
season pass prices at last year's levels. They have
also reduced the price of day passes by up to eight
percent.

A new product this year is the Lake Wanaka Ski Pass
valid for any five days at both Cordona Alpine Resort
and Treble Cone. The price of the pass is NZ$420.

There will also be a new FIS standard Big Air jump
open for business in Treble Cone's Main Basin
area this season. The ski area will now be able to
host international Big Air competitions.
