EXTREME AVALANCHE DANGER TODAY
April 30th 2010 13:33
After a rare late April string of unusual weather events,
the United States Forest Service has issued an
Extreme Avalanche Danger warning for skiers on
New Hampshire's Mount Washington.
Close to two feet of fresh snow has fallen this
week and combined with hurricane force wind has
made hiking and skiing Tuckerman Ravine a death
wish.
High wind conditions are predicted to last through today
and perhaps into tomorrow. For those who have a
late season ski excursion planned for Tuckerman Ravine this
weekend, you may want to postpone it to the following weekend.
The avalanche danger is real. Forest rangers advise people
not even to hike up "just to look."
