Skiing Reviews - October 2009

MT HOOD FUSION PASS PRICED RIGHT

October 30th 2009 13:52
One of the greatest ski season passes values this season is offered
by Oregon's Mt. Hood Skibowl and Timberline Lodge. For only
US$475, pass holders have unlimited lift access to both ski areas,
including night skiing and riding at the Skibowl--America's largest
night skiing area.

The length of the season is what puts the "Mt Hood Fusion Pass"
ahead in the great pass value category. The lifts spin from early
November (this year) until late May.

If the unlimited lift access alone was not enough, the ski area
throws in a plethora of discounts to retail, rentals, lessons and lodging

outlets.

The $475 price is available through November 8 and can be purchased
online or over the phone.

BIG SKY DEALS

October 28th 2009 20:16
It's that time of year to buy pre-season deal cards from
ski resorts before they pull the plug. At Montana's Big
Sky Resort skiers and snowboarders have until Saturday
to purchase either a "Frequent Sky Card" or a "Bigger
Sky Card" online or over the phone.

The US$79 Frequent Sky Card is good for lift access from
November 29 through December 5 and then again from
April 5 through April 11. It's also good for twenty dollars
off regularly priced day lift tickets throughout the season
and other discounts around the resort. A nice deal if you
can ski and ride during the time windows set by Big Sky.

They've also come up with the US$349 Bigger Sky Card
which includes lift access from the resort's opening day
through Christmas and then again from March 27 through
April 11. Like the Frequent Sky Card, this card is also
valid for twenty dollars off regular day lift tickets and
other discounts.

A new program this year is $500 half day of "First Tracks,"
where two people get to cut exclusive first powder tracks
on the Dakota or Shedhorn runs before the general public
has a chance. Kinda pricey, but if you want to treat you
and a friend well, there you go.

VAIL WON'T OWN THE CANYONS

October 27th 2009 20:06
in the world of ski area conglomerates jockeying to add resorts
to their portfolio of holdings, Vail Resorts has announced it's
gracefully bowing out of trying to acquire The Canyons Resort
property in Utah.

For many months, before the kaput American Skiing Company
finally throw in the proverbial towel, Vail Resorts had an understanding
of sorts that they would purchase the resort from the beaten down
to a shell of its former self corporation.

Alas, in the behind the scenes intrigue involving bankers, VCs,
lawyers and well, greedy types, the American Skiing Company
canceled the deal. "Sorry Vail boys, we got a better offer."

Vail Resorts sued but finally abandoned their rather fruitless
efforts this week.

The Canyons is now owned by the illustrious Talisker Corporation,
at least for the next few months or so.
